About the letters…

Par Avion Adventures revives the allure of crisp, paper letters brimming with stories, full of the adventures and misadventures of a fictional family as they explore their local stomping grounds, as well as exotic places abroad.

The McPhee family is comprised of dad Henry, mom Jillian, big brother Elliot and little sister Imogen. After making an important life change, they’ve started to grow their curiosity and explore the world around them – sometimes encountering little mishaps as they do.

With every trip they take, one of the family members (it changes from month to month) chronicles the journey in an illustrated letter to subscribers. With each monthly letter, readers get to know the family – and each family member – a little bit better.

Every letter will contain a surprise addition that ties into the theme of that month’s letter. Each month it will be something new.

While the letters have entertainment value for readers of all ages, they are kept family-friendly (G-rated) in content and language so that they are appropriate for their target age of about 8-12.

About the Creators…

Lori-Anne Poirier

I’m Lori-Anne Poirier, a former journalist turned school teacher, turned entrepreneur, who wanted to return to her writing roots – but in a fun and educational way, sharing entertaining stories through the cherished medium of old-fashioned letters.

The seed of this idea began to grow back in January 2024, when I came across some journal entries from my time in South Korea, many years ago. As I regaled my family with my unique experience of New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day in that far away country, my husband, Kyle, pointed out that these travel stories would be so much fun to read about in a letter. As I started to research the idea, I discovered that subscription letter services are quite a popular thing, and for good reason – it’s so fun to find a paper letter with your name on it, in the mailbox! 

This endeavour brings together my favourite things in the world: travelling, writing, adventure and family!

I was once a die-hard letter writer, until the internet and the immediacy of email took over my life. But over time, I’ve come to miss the slower process of crafting a good letter, with a fun and quirky story at its heart. On top of that, the process of personalizing each letter with artwork or embellishments made each one a personal expression and a keepsake. I still have letters from loved ones, written decades ago, bundled together with colourful ribbons, stashed in old trunks and drawers, like tangible time machines waiting for me to travel back through their pages. 

In the same way, I hope that Par Avion Adventures letters can become a special collection for you to return to in time, as well!

The Par Avion Adventures letters include beautifully and colourfully illustrated elements by my husband and co-conspirator, Kyle L. Poirier. He is a graphic designer and artist who shares my enthusiasm for travel, adventure and family.
